OHAUS Corporation, a leading worldwide manufacturer of analytical, precision, portable and mechanical balances and scales, proudly announces its Explorer line of analytical and precision balances has won Laboratory Equipment magazine’s 2014 “Readers' Choice” Award for best balance. This is the second consecutive year the Explorer was voted the best laboratory balance by the magazine’s readers. The annual Readers’ Choice Awards celebrates “excellence in product design and performance for the tools and materials used by scientists and engineers in research laboratories” in 18 distinct categories.

The OHAUS Explorer series of analytical and precision balances has recently expanded, welcoming several new models that extend the product family’s ingenuity. Among the new additions are high-capacity models with capacities up to 35kg that can satisfy higher capacity weighing needs, analytical models with motorized draftshield doors that can be operated solely with the touchless sensors, as well as external calibration precision models for a more traditional approach.

Every Explorer model combines precision and accuracy with technology that increases ease of use and meets the needs of modern laboratories. With fourteen practical weighing modes, including density determination, pipette adjustment and totalization, Explorer can facilitate practically every laboratory measurement process. Each balance has a full-color VGA touchscreen with a full numerical and QWERTY keypad and is powered by intuitive SmarText™ software which provides simple menu navigation.

AutoCal™ automatic calibration software is available on most models and helps ensure QA/QC in the laboratory while standard RS232 and USB connections allow for full LIS/LIMS integration. Additional features include four user programmable touchless sensors which power touch-free operation, a versatile draftshield with large weighing chamber, four leveling feet that improve balance stability, all in a modular design in which the display can be removed from the weighing base to fit your workspace.
